Except that I was there...that was our usual "Christmas to NY run" except that now it was in OAK rather than Winterland...that was one of the first shows my wife and I went to...both sides of the family as well. 25 or so of us in all.

Singular defense of SYF. After living down the hall from some NY heads I picked up SYF. This was about 6 months before my first show in 79. To my everlasting delight they played 3/4 of tunes on SYF that night. So the 1st show was full of music I had heard. It really felt like they were saying "Hey new guy here is a show for just for you."

I like the Casey Jones on Steal Yr Face, it's prob my fave version, least it's not cut like on the Grateful Dead movie soundtrack.

The Other One from DP 5 is one of my favorites and it's my fav song.

For me SYF is the worst. Hard to believe that the same Winterland 74 shows had such great stuff. Wish they woulda put out music from the companion DVD to GD Movie.

Guess they weren't interested in selling records at that time.

I always thought Dead Set was pretty lame. Almost any of the recordings I had from shows then were more enjoyable than that album when it came out.

Reckoning on the other hand was sublime.
